"Peter Ronnefeld Prize" of the Kiel Philharmonic Orchestra
The prize is named after the conductor and composer Peter Ronnefeld, who was Germany's youngest general music director at the Kiel Opera House from 1963 until his early death in 1965. He was considered one of the outstanding musical talents in the German-speaking region.
For the first time, the competition for the "Peter Ronnefeld Prize" of the Philharmonic Orchestra Kiel took place in Ag亚游国际集团_皇族电子竞技俱乐部-官网app下载 and Kiel in 2022. Selected by an internal jury consisting of MHL professors and the GMD of the state capital Kiel as well as a second top-class jury extended by external members, the competition aims to offer MHL students a forum to perform solo with the Philharmonic Orchestra Kiel in a professional setting.
Conditions of participation
The competition is open to all students of the instrumental Bachelor and Master programmes at the MHL (except organ). Participants must be enrolled in the relevant degree programmes at MHL in the summer semester 2023. They confirm that they have reserved or will make possible the project period of the Philharmonic Orchestra Kiel (prize winners' concert). Attendance at the second workshop (see below) is compulsory. Applications are to be sent to the Presidium by 1 May 2023 with details of the programme (both rounds) and a letter of recommendation from the main subject teachers using the enclosed application form.
Procedure and prizes
The competition will be held in two rounds. At least two prizes will be awarded
The prize winners also receive the "Klassikal Special Prize". It includes a two-year free membership to Klassikal.com, the online platform where classical music professionals network with each other. Here they can build up their professional digital presence and present their own musical projects to agencies, ensembles and event organisers.
The "Peter Ronnefeld Prize" includes a solo concert as part of a special concert in the 2023/24 season with the Kiel Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by GMD Benjamin Reiners. The audience prize is donated by the Verein der Musikfreunde Kiel e.V. and includes a recital in the concert series "Klassisch beflügelt".
The first round will take place on 01 and 02 June 2023 at the MHL. The jury is made up of professors and a member of the MHL's executive board as well as the GMD of the state capital Kiel. A complete concert will be played, which must be performed from memory. Up to four candidates can be selected for the second round. The jury may divide the first round into two rounds.
The second round will take place in public on Saturday, 24 June 2023 in the Petruskirche Kiel in front of a slightly modified and enlarged top-class jury with external members. A recital programme of approx. 30 minutes will be played. This should include a complete sonata (or a work corresponding to the repertoire of the instrument) and a contemporary composition (composed after 1950). The remaining time may be freely arranged. For the second round, a programme is to be designed, which should consist of a programme overview, a biography with artist's photo and a self-written text with explanations of the musical programme. The content and design of the programme will be taken into account in the evaluation. A short interview on the programme and the artist's own career is also planned for the competition day in Kiel.
In preparation, two workshops of the MHL Career Centre in cooperation with the Philharmonic Orchestra Kiel will take place on 18.04. or 19.04.2023 and 13/14.06.2023 in Ag亚游国际集团_皇族电子竞技俱乐部-官网app下载. The soloist concert and recital are planned for autumn 2023.
